Brief Introduction of Swaminarayan Ji –

It is believed that Lord Swaminarayan was born in human form in 1781 AD in Chhapia area of Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh. His name was Ghanshyam Pandey (Neelkanthvarni) and he had learned the scriptures at a very young age. After this, at the age of 11, he started his 7-year pilgrimage in India.

According to a legend, Neelkanthvarni had reached Loj village near Mangrol during his pilgrimage and there he met Swami Ramanand Maharaj. He only asked Neelkanthvarni i.e. Swaminarayan to stay in the ashram.

It is further mentioned that Swami Ramanand had initiated Neelkanthvarni in Piplana village and named him ‘Sahajanand‘ and the same Swami Sahajanand had asked everyone to chant Swaminarayan mantra after visiting villages.

Swami Sahajanand used to tell the society to observe five vows. In these five vows, the talk of following one’s religion was included by giving up meat, alcohol, theft, adultery.

What is the history of Chhapia mandir?
