Who was Baba Neem Karoli..?

Neem Karoli Baba or Neeb Karoli Baba is counted among the greatest saints of the twentieth century. His place of birth was in village Akbarpur district Firozabad Uttar Pradesh. Kainchi, Nainital is situated at a distance of 7 kilometers from Bhuwali. Baba Neeb Karori established this ashram in 1964. Baba Neeb Karori came here for the first time in 1961 and along with his old friend Purnanand ji, he thought of building an ashram here.

This place is known as Kainchi Temple, Kainchi Dham, Neem Karauli Dham and Neem Karauli Ashram. This temple was built by Baba Neem Karauli Maharaj Ji, which is famous by the name of Miraculous Baba Ashram. Neem Karoli Baba’s real name was Lakshminarayan Sharma. There is an interesting story behind his name Neem Karoli Baba. Once Baba was traveling in a first class compartment. When the ticket checker came, Baba did not have the ticket. Then Baba was deboarded from the train at the next station ‘Neeb Karoli’.

Baba sat down at a short distance with his anklets buried in the ground. The officials ordered the train to start and the guard gave the green signal to the train, but the train did not move even an inch from its place. When the train did not run despite many efforts, the local magistrate who knew Baba asked the officials to apologize to Baba and bring him inside respectfully. Other people aboard the train also supported the magistrate. The officials apologized to Baba and made him sit in the train respectfully. As soon as Baba boarded the train, the train started. Since then Baba’s name became Neem Karoli. There are hundreds of stories of miracles of Neem Karoli Baba.

That’s why Kainchi Dham Name Was Kept

The road leading to Kainchi Dham appears like a scissor with two sharp turns. For this reason the Dham was named Kainchi Dham. Neem Karauli Baba revered Hanuman very much. Festival Takes Place In The Month of June (Kainchi Dham Mela)

Baba Neem Karauli, along with his friend Purnanand, established Kainchi Dham Ashram on 15 June 1964. An annual function is celebrated every year on 15th June in Kainchi Dham. The foundation day of the Dham is celebrated every year on 15 June. In the Dham, Statue of Hanuman Ji and other Gods and Goddesses can be seen, which are installed on 15th June of different years.

On this day there is a huge crowd of devotees of Neem Karoli Baba. On the foundation day of Kainchi Dham, devotees offer Malpua to Neem Karauli Baba. Every year a large number of artisans from Mathura come to Kainchi Dham to prepare the Bhog.

Best Time to Visit Kainchi Dham

If you are looking for the right time to visit Neem Karoli Baba’s Ashram, then the time from March to June will be suitable. Apart from this, one can also visit Kainchi Dham between September to November. During these months the weather is pleasant and the natural surroundings around the ashram are better for travelling. Avoid going to hilly areas in July-August due to monsoon.

Important Thing Before Going To Kainchi Dham

• No weapons or intoxicants of any kind are allowed in the ashram.

• Dogs and other pets are not allowed in the ashram, including the parking lot (unattended animals are also not allowed in cars due to the risk of heat stroke).

• Do not apply ointment or tilak on Hanuman ji, Shiva Linga or any idol present in the temple premises.

Important Things Before Entering Kainchi Dham Temple or Darshan Hall –

• Please take off your shoes and wear decent clothes.

• Your shoulders should be covered there. If this is not the case you can use shawls which you can borrow from outside the temple doors if needed, and then return them.

• Please keep clean body and clothes. If your cleanliness is a nuisance to others, we may ask you to leave to clean. If you traveled to come here and need a shower, please speak to a caregiver.

Please Don’t Do This in Kainchi Dham –

• No use of cell phones or computers in the temple, sunroom or darshan hall.

• It is not allowed to pluck flowers from vases or grounds inside the temple.

• To argue or raise your voice.

• One should not sit with one’s back or legs towards the Takht (Maharaj Ji’s bed at the front of the room) or any altar, as it is considered inauspicious and a sign of disrespect.

• Loud or disruptive conversation is not allowed in the sunroom; Those causing disruption may be asked to leave the grounds.

• Put all tools, prayer books, and meditation cushions back when you are finished, and avoid placing uncovered prayer books directly on the floor.

• Photography: If you want to do photography or videography inside Kainchi Dham temple, then you will have to first take permission for that. Do not take photographs during prayer ceremonies in the temple. You can enjoy drawing the picture of Hanuman ji for your personal use. Images of Hanuman ji cannot be used commercially and the Ashram takes action against those who violate this rule.

• Parking: You also get parking facility in Kainchi Dham. The main ashram parking lot and designated overflow parking area are the only available parking areas; Parking on nearby streets or adjacent properties will result in your vehicle being towed.

• Note: That it is customary to take prasad (sacred food presented as offerings) and water from the deities only with the right hand. The water and prasad distributed during the aarti is also taken with the right hand.

Neem Karoli Baba Ashram is located on the Nainital – Almora road, 9 kilometers from Bhawali and 17 kilometers from Nainital. In the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, one can take a train to Kathgodam and then take a two-hour bus ride to Kainchi Dham. The ashram is located close to the bus stop.

If you want air service then Pantnagar airport is nearest 70 km from Kainchi Dham. Taxi or bus will be available to reach Kainchi Dham. If you want to travel to Kainchi Dham by train, then the nearest railway station is Kathgodam. Neem Karoli Ashram is 38 kilometers away from Kathgodam.
