Chandradarshan is not done on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi-
According to the scriptures, one should avoid seeing the moon on the day of Chaturthi. If you see the moon, you may be falsely accused. Like Lord Krishna was accused of stealing the Syamantak gem. It is said that if a person accidentally sees Chandradarshan then Lord Ganesha forgives him by reading or listening to Krishna Syamantak Katha.

- On the day of Ganesh Utsav festival, wake up early in the morning, take bath, meditate and clean the place of worship.

- Then, during the auspicious time, spread a yellow or red cloth at the place of worship and install Lord Ganesha while chanting mantras.
- After this, offer turmeric, sandalwood, vermillion, roli, mauli, durva, fruits, flowers and garland to Lord Ganesha.

According to a mythological story, Maharishi Vedvyas ji had invoked Lord Ganesha for the creation of Mahabharata. Vyas ji kept reciting the verses and Ganpati ji kept transcribing the Mahabharata for 10 days without stopping. Within ten days, a layer of dust settled on Lord Ganesha. After 10 days, i.e. on Anant Chaturdashi, Bappa cleaned himself by taking a bath in the Saraswati river, after that Ganesh Utsav started being celebrated for ten days.
